Pathfinder Course


The Warrior Training Center’s Pathfinder Course is 15 days in duration and prepares Soldiers to become proficient in sling loads, helicopter landing zones and air assault planning, and drop zone operations. Training culminates with a three day FTX prior to graduation. This course is for National Guard Soldiers, Active Duty, Reserve Soldiers and some sister services.

Pathfinder In-Processing will begin at 1300 sharp on the report date.

Prerequisites for attending Pathfinder Course:

  1. All applicants: must have a current PHA within 12 months of the course graduation, have a minimum profile serial of 111121, have no speech impediment, and have passed the ACFT, once enacted, within the last six months of attending the course. Applicants must meet Service height and weight standards IAW specific Service standards within 30 days of the course start. Army applicants must have one year military service remaining upon completion of the course IAW AR 614-200, Chapter 4. Army applicants must bring a copy of Officer Record Brief (ORB) or Enlisted Record Brief (ERB) to validate GT Score and MOS/Branch.
  2. Officers: National Guard Officers in the grades of O-1 through O-3 assigned to a billet documented with the Skill Identifier (SI) "5Q.” Officers in the following Control Branches are authorized to attend: IN (AOC 11A), AR (AOC 19A), MI (AOC 35D, 35E, 35F or 35G), QM (AOC 92A only), EN (AOC 12A) and Logistics (90A). All other grades and branches require a waiver.
  3. Enlisted MOS: National Guard Soldiers in the grades of E-3 through E-7 in the following MOS are authorized to attend: 11B, 11C, 15Q, 19D, 88M, 92R (skill levels 3 and 4 only), and 92Y (skill levels 1 through 3). All other grades and MOSs require a waiver. Enlisted applicants must have a GT score of 110 or above.
  4. Other Services: Other Services: Active and Reserve Marine Corps Officers (2LT-CPT) and enlisted personnel (CPL-GNSGT) in logistics and combat arms may attend. Active and Reserve Air Force enlisted personnel serving as combat control team/forward air controllers (SGT-MSGT) may attend.

"This form is the Soldier's responsibility and must be filled out and signed by the prospective student's leadership PRIOR to in-processing in order to reduce waiting times at the in-processing table. Students without this form have 72 hours to present it or they will be removed from the course."

Reporting Instructions:

As the Warrior Training Center’s Pathfinder Course is primarily MTT (Mobile Training Team) based, reporting instructions will vary from location to location. Because of this, standard reporting instructions will not be listed on this page. However, close to 30 days from the reporting date of the course, a welcome letter will be emailed to the email address on file in ATRRS.

For planning purposes in DTS – if students are not driving to the course, units can plan to fly students into the closest major airport and in most cases, the host site will provide pick up and drop off from the airport. Meals will be provided during the course as well. Ultimately all the course specific instructions will be provided to the student roughly 30 days out from the report date.

Waivers:

  1. WAIVERS (MINUS MEDICAL AND/OR AGE) MUST BE SUBMITTED NLT 75 DAYS PRIOR TO THE CLASS START DATE.

  2. MEDICAL WAIVERS MUST BE SUBMITTED NLT 90 DAYS PRIOR TO CLASS START DATE.

  3. ANY WAIVERS SUBMITTED OUTSIDE THE TIMEFRAME MUST BE ACCOMPANIED WITH A LETTER OF LATENESS SIGNED BY O-5 OR HIGHER. ****NO EXCEPTIONS

  4. WAIVERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE HIGHER HEADQUARTERS SCHOOL NCO (REPRESENTATIVE) ONLY. ****NO EXCEPTIONS

Waiver Authority: Warrior Training Center (WTC) Deputy Commanding Officer (DCO) is the waiver approval authority for this course. Students requesting course prerequisite waivers for School 964A (WTC) Pathfinder course (e.g. AOC/MOS, Rank/Grade, Medical/Physical Standards, etc.) will submit their request through the first LTC Commander in their chain of command. Waivers (minus Medical/Physical) must be submitted NLT 75 days prior to the class start date. Waivers for Medical/Physical requirements must be submitted NLT 90 days prior to class start date.
