Brig. Gen. Kiniery graduated from the Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel; Kansas State University, and the U.S. Army War College.
Prior deployments and assignments include: deputy commander (operations) for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), executive officer to the 40th chief of staff of the Army, commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team for the 82nd Airborne Division, director of operations (J3) for United States Forces-Afghanistan and Resolute Support deputy coalition operations officer during Operation Freedom Sentinel, operations officer (G3) for the 82nd Airborne Division, and commander of the 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
Additionally, Kiniery served as aide to the commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center; commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop and B Troop, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, during Operation Katrina Relief and Operation Iraqi Freedom; commander of C Company and battalion logistics officer for the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As a lieutenant, he served in the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Light) at Fort Lewis, Washington, during the Army's transformation to Stryker Brigades.
Kiniery has attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
