Brig. Gen. Chad Chalfont

Brig. Gen. Chalfont, originally from Newtown, Pennsylvania, received his commission as an armor officer from the United States Military Academy in 1995.

His first assignment was with 2-69 Armor, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he served as a tank platoon leader, tank company executive officer and battalion assistant S-3. In 1999, Brig. Gen. Chalfont served as the brigade assistant S-3 (plans) in 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. He commanded D Company, 1-8 Cavalry (later reflagged to A Company, 1-8 Cavalry) in 2001. In 2003, he attended graduate school and reported to West Point in 2005 to teach in the Department of History.

Brig. Gen. Chalfont deployed to Iraq in 2007, serving as the team chief for a Military Transition Team, advising an Iraqi battalion in Baghdad and Diyala provinces. In 2009, he reported to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, California, serving as the 1st Squadron's executive officer and regimental operations officer.

He deployed to Iraq again in 2011, serving as the deputy executive officer to the commander, United States Forces Iraq. He later served as a special assistant to the Vice Chief of Staff, Army from 2012-2013.

Brig. Gen. Chalfont commanded 2-7 Infantry, 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia, from 2013-2015. He served as a politico-military affairs officer in the Joint Staff J5 China Division from 2016-2018.

Brig. Gen. Chalfont commanded 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas, from 2018-2020 and later served as the 1st Armored Division chief of staff from 2020-2021.

He served as the commander of National Training Center Operations Group from 2021-2022 and as the deputy commanding officer (support) for 1st Cavalry Division from 2022-2023. Brig. Gen. Chalfont most recently served as the deputy commanding general (maneuver) for 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Cavazos, Texas.

Brig. Gen. Chalfont's military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery Advanced Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff School, and National War College. He earned a master of arts degree in history from Pennsylvania State University and a master of science degree in national security studies from the National War College.

Brig. Gen. Chalfont is married to the former Shannon Ward of Norman, Oklahoma. They have two sons, Luke and Matthew.
