Battle Drill 13: Mount a BFV and ICV (07-3-D9434)

CONDITIONS:

The platoon leader receives an order to move the platoon to a new location. The squads are dismounted and ordered to remount the vehicle.

CUE:

The unit leader initiates the drill by giving the order to, "MOUNT UP."

STANDARDS:

The vehicle moves to a covered and concealed position to provide protection to the remounting squads. Squads mount in the order specified

TASK STEPS AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES

1. The platoon/squad leader gives an order to prepare to mount, then gives the order or signals to the squads to mount their vehicles, and designates a mount point.

2. Both elements (mounted and dismounted) move to the mount point using covered and concealed routes.

3. The crew, using the appropriate weapons, overwatches primary enemy avenues of approach and provides supporting fire and smoke, if necessary.

4. BFV or ICV, or both: the Bradley/vehicle commander orders the driver to lower the ramp or the squad to enter through the ramp access door.

5. The platoon/squad leader orders, " MOUNT." (The order to mount may come with clarifying instructions such as, " FIRST SQUAD, PROVIDE A BASE OF FIRE UNTIL SECOND SQUAD IS MOUNTED.")

6. Each squad mounts in the order specified. The squad leader designates which fire team mounts first--for example, Team A mounts first; Team B provides overwatching fires

7. Soldiers remount the vehicle in reverse sequence of dismount. (See figures J-20 through J-2.)

8. The platoon/squad leader prepares to mount.

    a. Senior leader accounts for all personnel  and equipment , ensures weapons are on SAFE in the vehicle, and reports to the Bradley/vehicle commander. The senior leader announces, "ALL UP."
    b. The Bradley/vehicle commander orders the driver to raise the ramp or the fire team to close the ramp access door.
    c. The platoon leader establishes visual or radio contact with the other Bradley/vehicle commander and designates a direction of movement, formation, and movement technique from the mount point.
